Sometimes it is not possible to replace your product or its packaging. This is where workstation cranes with custom lifting devices such as vacuum lifters, manipulators or electric hoists may be necessary. Make the product available in light weight. You can find light weight products at Reflex equip for your regular usage. A simple push workstation crane or monorail can be pushed very easily if the load is kept at an acceptable level.

• Reduce the object’s push/pull.
• Provide your employees with dollies, carts, powered pallet jacks or forklifts.
• Minimize personnel carrying product.
• Provide your employees with dollies, carts, overhead cranes, carts, lift tables, turn tables or forklifts.
• Rearrange the work room to eliminate the distance required to move the product.

Of course, not all lifting, twisting and reaching of loads can be eliminated. The worker also needs to know some general do’s and don’ts.Never wake up with weak muscles. Use the core muscles of your legs and feet. Keep your back straight but not completely vertical.

• Never jerk the load, but use a slow controlled lift.
• Keep the product close to your body.
• Keep your body straight and avoid turning your head while lifting.
• Keep the weight well in your centre of gravity for added leverage.
• If possible, change jobs to avoid fatigue.

None of the above concepts are new, but they are concepts that managers need to be reminded about. These simple products and principles can reduce MSDs.
